48hr Film Fest

6th weekend of winter quarter (Feb 10-12) Fire Escape will be hosting their annual 48hr Film Festival where You and your friends will write, shoot, and edit a short film all in the span of 48 hours. The event will formally start at 6pm on friday the 10th, and all films must be submitted by the following sunday at 6pm.

Fire Escape will have equipment and editing stations available for check-out in the Cox Lounge (basement of Stuart Hall), which will be the headquarters and check-in spot for the weekend.

Get some friends and Sign Up! E-mail the committee at fecommittee@uchicago.edu with your name, e-mail, and telephone number, along with the names and e-mails of the other group members you want to sign up with. Everyone who e-mails us with interest will be added to the 48hr Film Fest Listhost, made specifically to send out details about the competition.

You can check out last year’s 48hr Film Festival winner at Fire Escape’s vimeo channel. Food and Free T-shirts will also be provided for the groups who sign up!

Screenwriter’s Circle to Begin this Wednesday

This wednesday the 18th, 6:30p in Harper 151, Screenwriter’s Circle will have its first meeting of the quarter. Bring your script, your premise, your half-baked idea, your thoughts on Syd Field’s influence in Hollywood, or your new storytelling technique. The meeting will be totally chill, food will be served, and new friends will be made.

We’ll be hosting a general meeting this wednesday the 30th in Cox Lounge, (the basement of Stuart hall) at 6:30 pm. Come hear about all of our plans for next quarter and talk with your fellow filmmakers to send off the autumn quarter. As per usual, Pizza will be served.

Indie Film Workshop with Alum Ben Kolak

Recent Alum and local Filmmaker Ben Kolak will be at the sHOP arts space this friday the 11th from 5 to 7PM. He will be be giving a workshop on all the things you should know if you’re going to take on indie filmmaking in Chicago. This is the man of “Scrappers” fame, a documentary that Roger Ebert himself gave hefty praise. Come and learn the skills!

Screening to follow at 8pm. You can find the sHOP shared arts space at 5638 S Woodlawn ave. Live music by the Astromusicologists.

General Meeting, Nov. 2nd

We will be hosting the third general meeting of the quarter this wednesday, the 2nd of November. Join us in the Cox Lounge (basement of stuart Hall) at 6:00 to talk about your intro projects and meet other aspiring filmmakers. We’ll have some pizza, as always.

It’s that time of the year for costumes, candy, and haunted houses.  This year we’re throwing a full out Halloween Prom along with WHPK, UT, and Doc Films.

If you have any musical talent and are interested in covering songs from your favorite musicians AND getting to dress up like them, come on down and sign yourself up!

First General Meeting of the Year

Hello young, old, new, returning, experienced, fresh filmmakers. We will be holding our first meeting at 6:30, Wednesday the 5th of October. Come meet us in the Cox Lounge, located in the basement of Stuart Hall, for information on how to join, what opportunities we offer, and some productions people are already planning for this year. Free Pizza will be served in a shameless attempt to persuade those of you on the fence.

Spring Fest Is Moved

Because all weather stations say this thursday is going to be crappy, we’ve made the decision to move the Spring Fest to its rain date,

Wednesday, June the 1st, 7:30.

In case you missed the announcements, We’ll have bands, food, swag, friendly RSOs, and Student Films for everyone’s enjoyment out on Bartlett Quad. It’s gonna be boss.
